This was Knute Rockne's seventh season as head coach of the Fighting Irish. They finished 10-0 and were named National Champions after their Rose Bowl win (27-10) versus Stanford. The team was led by the legendary backfield known as the "Four Horsemen" consisting of quarterback Harry Stuhldreher, halfbacks Don Miller and Jim Crowley, and fullback Elmer Layden.
