The 1940 Tigers shut out all but one opponent in 1940. The entire starting defense was awarded First-Team All-Ohio. They were the state and National Champion. Head Coach Paul Brown later left Massillon to become head coach at Ohio State, winning the national championship in 1942; he would later coach the Cleveland Browns (winning four AAC championships) and the Cincinnati Bengals.
